A trade copier takes a trade from one place and places it in another. For a signal provider the question is not whether the technology works, it is what it changes about your responsibility. This guide explains the mechanics in plain words and ends with what you should tell followers before they copy anything.
What a copier does
A copier watches a source (your MT5 account, or a message in your channel) and, when a trade appears, places a matching order on the follower's account. The follower's app decides the lot size from the follower's own settings, usually a percentage of their balance per trade or a fixed lot.
That last part matters: the copier copies the idea, not the outcome. Two followers copying the same trade can have very different results.
Why every follower's result is different
Four things change the outcome between your account and a follower's, and none of them are under your control.
- Risk per trade: their percentage, not yours.
- Broker: different spreads, different prices at the same moment.
- Timing: a trade copied a few seconds later can fill at a different price.
- Their own interventions: closing early, moving a stop, running out of margin.
What this means for your claims
Because results differ by follower, any statement like "my followers made X" is unprovable and, in most places, unlawful to make. Describe your method, your rules and your own record. Never describe followers' results.
What the follower's app has to get right
A copier is only as good as its worst case. Before you point followers at any copier, including the one we are building, ask what it does when the connection drops mid-trade, when the broker rejects an order, when the follower's balance cannot cover the lot size, and when you modify a trade after posting it. A good app tells the follower what happened in plain words; a bad one stays silent and the follower finds out at the end of the month.
Ask also what the app can see. It should be able to place and manage trades on the follower's account and nothing more: no withdrawals, no access to other accounts, no copy of the follower's broker password stored where you can read it.
Where the signal comes from matters
Copying from a message in a channel means a parser has to read your text. Copying from your MT5 directly removes the parser: the trade is posted exactly as you took it, with its real stop and target. It also means the record of your trades is read from the account, not typed by you.
The MT5-to-channel app and the branded copier app are on the PipBeacon roadmap and are not live yet. This guide is about the mechanics, not a feature you can use today.
What to tell followers before they copy
Put this in your channel rules and on your page.
- That they decide their own risk per trade and should start small.
- That their results will differ from yours and from each other's.
- That a copied trade can fill at a different price than yours.
- That they can lose their deposit and should only use money they can afford to lose.
- That you do not manage their account and cannot see or control it.
Questions
Is copying legal?
The rules differ by country and by broker. A follower is responsible for checking their broker's terms and their local rules. As a provider, do not describe your service as managing anyone's money.
Should I recommend a risk per trade?
You can explain what you use yourself. Telling followers what to use is advice, and most providers should not give it.
